Although it may be something that hasn’t crossed the consciousness of many Wisconsin residents, kindergarten through 12th grade fabrication laboratories — “Fab Labs” — will likely soon become something that schools throughout the state will come to see as an irreplaceable part of the curriculum for all schools.

That was the message at a Fab-Lab conference held Thursday at the Ashland campus of Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College.

The event, sponsored by the Lake Superior Chapter of the Wisconsin Innovation Network, featured presentations about the small-scale workshops that offer personal digital fabrication in lab spaces that are prototyping platforms for innovation and invention.
