Computer scientists at Marquette University have been awarded a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to fund a program that helps low-income, academically talented students with non-computing undergraduate degrees transition into a new career in computing.

The grant will fund a program called Change Opportunity – Start Masters in Computing — also known as COSMIC — which will train 24 adults in a customized curriculum that allows them to quickly change job paths to a career in computing. COSMIC builds off an I.T. Boot Camp that Marquette computer scientists launched in 2013. That pilot program resulted in adults unemployed for a long period completing a master’s degree in computing.
