Epic Systems Corp. was awarded $940 million, including $700 million in punitive damages, by a jury on Friday in a trade-secrets lawsuit against Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., an affiliate of one of India’s largest conglomerates.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Madison, alleged that Tata Consultancy, based in Mumbai, stole trade secrets, confidential information and documents from Epic while working as a consultant for Kaiser Permanente, a California health system that uses Epic’s software for electronic health records.
