Midwestern BioAg Inc., a Madison company that makes and sells fertilizer and does soil consulting, said Thursday it has raised $21.3 million.

That brings to $40 million the total amount the company has raised since it was recapitalized in 2014, said Megan Sawle, a spokeswoman.

Midwestern BioAg will use the money to expand its fertilizer manufacturing capacity, build capacity for working closely with large food companies to improve the nutritional content of crops those companies process and distribute, and to reduce the environmental impacts associated with those crops.
