According to the findings by the American Investment Council, Wisconsin ranked eighteenth in the U.S. in terms of investment from private equity, with $11.58 billion in capital invested. The state also ranked seventeenth in terms of private equity-backed businesses, with 73 companies.

In all, private equity firms invested over $625 billion in more than 3,700 U.S.-based companies last year.
