GREEN BAY – Not many people come to Green Bay to surf, but a local company’s surfing and action sports app recently got some love from Apple.

Sessions is a new app developed by Xensr for the Apple Watch that tracks calories burned, the height of waves and the number of runs a surfer makes.

Apple Vice President of Technology Kevin Lynch talked about the app while unveiling upgrades to the Apple Watch during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote address on June 5. The annual conference showcases major upgrades, enhanced capabilities and other innovations Apple plans to introduce each year.

Green Bay native and Xensr CEO David Troup said the company’s capabilities over the last year impressed Apple engineers, especially considering Xensr’s located in the Silicon “Tundra,” not Silicon Valley.

“We got a call from Apple and the first question was ‘Are you guys really in Wisconsin?’” Troup said. “We get that a lot. … The Midwest thing is kind of a shock to people, but it was funny this time around given what a Green Bay company is doing with surfing.”
