Aurora Health Care’s announcement that it will invest $5 million to support Milwaukee-area startups is just the latest example of the nonprofit’s forays into early-stage investments.

The Milwaukee-based health care system said its InvestMKE unit will support local startups with $5 million in capital “through a multi-year funding commitment.” Northwestern Mutual simultaneously announced its own $5 million Cream City Venture Capital fund. Each of the new funds will use independent investment criteria.

Aurora’s enterprise business group, which is part of its main nonprofit business unit, has been investing in early-stage companies for several years. Read the full story here.
