Foxconn Technology Group could get breaks on duty payments for items it imports to Mount Pleasant to make LCD screens under a pending application to the federal government.
Foxconn, through its Wisconsin subsidiary AFE Inc., is seeking federal approval for the fee forgiveness through the Foreign Trade Zone program. It could mean Foxconn makes lower or delayed payments to the federal government on a host of foreign-made components that would be imported for the company’s Wisconsin-made televisions.
Those components could include, for example, infrared light sensors for remote controls, steel screws, cables, AAA batteries, TV stands and printed instructions, according to Foxconn’s application. Duty payments for those products can be has high as 10.7 percent of their value.
