Wisconsin’s unemployment rate has continued to drop, but it’s job growth rate has slowed, according to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
From December 2015 to December 2016, private-sector employment grew at a rate of 0.5 percent in Wisconsin, ranking 33rd among the 50 states, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW), considered to be the “gold standard” of American jobs data as it uses records from more than 96 percent of business establishments.
In comparison, in the same survey measuring growth from September 2015 to September 2016, employment grew 1 percent, with the state ranking 30th. Wisconsin has long been in the bottom half of states for job growth.
In addition, the new survey indicated that Wisconsin wages dropped 2 percent to an average weekly wage of $924.
