A special committee to guide Wisconsin’s strategy for the development of autonomous vehicles has been created through an executive order issued May 18 by Gov. Scott Walker.
The Governor’s Steering Committee on Autonomous and Connected Vehicle Testing and Deployment will advise Walker on how best to advance the testing and operation of self-driving vehicles in Wisconsin. The executive order notes the U.S. Department of Transportation recently selected the UW-Madison as one of 10 “proving grounds” for autonomous vehicles, and that other resources exist statewide to position Wisconsin as a leader in the field.
“The removal of barriers to the testing and deployment of automated and connected vehicle technology in Wisconsin may produce significant social, economic, environmental, and innovative benefits including enhancing mobility, creating jobs, and improving transportation efficiency,” reads Executive Order 245.
