A Chicago nonprofit that trains people for jobs in technology is opening a satellite office in Milwaukee’s 3rd Ward.
Inner-City Computer Stars Foundation, or i.c.stars, is opening the office with the help of a $1.6 million donation from Milwaukee-based The Dohmen Co. The training office will operate out of a shared space with Dohmen’s health care technology company, Red Arrow Labs, at 200 N. Jefferson St., according to a news release from Dohmen.
“Our country has half-a-million unfilled tech jobs awaiting these future leaders,” said Sandee Kastrul, i.c.stars founder, in a statement. “With partners like The Dohmen Co., we can train and place promising students into well-paid careers, while advancing Milwaukee’s reputation as a growing leader in the technology sector.”
Through i.c.stars, participants take part in a four-month paid internship that includes “training in specific technology skill areas, business acumen and leadership development.” Interns also receive two years of coaching, professional development and support. Read the full story here.
