MADISON – Federal agencies that are among the biggest buyers of outside research and development will be represented at the fourth annual “Resource Rendezvous.”

The event, produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, the Wisconsin Technology Council and the UW-Madison College of Engineering, will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the UW-Madison College of Engineering, 1415 Engineering Drive.

Early-bird registration is $75 through July 18 and $85 thereafter and $40 for students; all register at Look under “Featured Events.”

Speakers include Jim Grove, Department of Homeland Security; Greg Milman, National Institutes of Health; Michael Hoard, Marinette Marine; Larry Pollack, Defense Threat Reduction Agency; Ron Marchessault, Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center; George Solhan, Office of Naval Research; and Dr. Renee Wagner, Agricultural Research Service. More speakers will be announced in coming weeks.

Researchers, grant writers, business leaders and other professionals who attend will learn about the R&D interests and related funding opportunities of participating agencies. Two events will give conference-goers the opportunity to discuss their research and technology: The Wisconsin Research Poster Exhibit will showcase accepted posters from registered attendees from business and academia. The “Skunk Works Olympics: Three-Minute Pitch” will give researchers and businesses an opportunity to present their technology to conference speakers and attendees.

Tracks will focus on “Writing a winner: Pointers on SBIR proposals for NIH and DoD,” “What the feds really want: Overview of agency research agendas,” and “From the lab bench to your business: Tech transfer from national labs.”

“This event brings together researchers and industry to network, promote their technology and to learn about the tools they need to effectively pursue federal research and development grants,” said Jack Heinemann, director of the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, a non-profit corporation helping Wisconsin companies and researchers compete for grants and contracts.
