In the year since the state landed the North American headquarters and massive manufacturing campus of Foxconn Technology Group, Wisconsin rose four places on CNBC’s “America’s Top States for Business” list.
Wisconsin rose to No. 17 on the 2018 list after ranking 21st the year before. It outpaced regional rival Illinois (No. 28), was sandwiched by Indiana and Iowa (Nos. 16 and 18, respectively), and fell short of Michigan (No. 11) and the Midwest’s top performer, Minnesota (No. 6).
Wisconsin’s individual metrics, which included infrastructure, education and cost of living, all rated between average and good. The state didn’t rank worse than 25th (access to capital) in any category, but also didn’t rank higher than 14th (education) in any category either.
The Badger State showed the most year-to-year improvement in terms of its economy, which ranked 28th in 2017 and rose to 19th this year. CNBC also bumped Wisconsin up to 22nd in workforce from 28th, 24th in business friendliness from 27th and 23rd in infrastructure from 26th. Read the full story here.
