Firms from the Upper Midwest won awards and funding in a national clean tech business competition Wednesday night.

The national grand prize was awarded to Atmosphere Recovery Inc. of Eden Prairie, Minn., which makes laser-based analyzing systems for manufacturing processes.

While it didn’t take the grand prize, Wisconsin’s Whole Trees Structures won the national competition in the category of “green building.” The company makes structural building systems made from round timber.
