Even in tough economic times, Wisconsin tech-based firms are attracting investors, finding partners and moving their products and services to market. Here is a round-up of recent company news.
* Alice.com creates new internet storefront. The storefronts deliver a “learning lab of consumer data and insights” and allow consumers to make their purchases from multiple makers in a single transaction.
* AquaMost LLC and a Pennsylvania environmental remediation company, Encotech Inc., said Tuesday they have received a $100,000 federal innovation grant to develop an advanced water purification device.
* BioSentinel launched a product that can rapidly and accurately detect the presence of deadly botulinum neurotoxins.
* Mortara Instrument Inc. scored a victory in Italy when local government officials in Milan said device would be put in all 100 ambulances that serve the Milan area’s 3.5 million people.
*Platypus Technologies has been awarded a $2.2 Million federal contract with the Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center in Maryland.
*Promega – Craig Christenson, the licensing director of WARF has left to become general counsel at Promega Corp.
* Telkonet, a Maryland maker of energy management technology used in buildings, announced plans to move its headquarters and about 50 jobs to Wisconsin.
* ZBB Energy Corporation - Tech Council board member Eric Apfelbach named CEO of ZBB Energy Corp.

* Alice.com has raised $6 million from private investors, mostly to Wisconsin, bring its total to $10 million for the year. Alice runs a Web site through which manufacturers can sell household good directly to consumers.
* BioSystem Development completed an investment round that included $1 million in funding and $350,000 in equipment.
* Central Signal secured a $700,000 Small Business Innovation Research grant.
* EraGen Biosciences Inc., which makes genetic tests, has formed a strategic partnership with Illumina Inc., a San Diego maker of high-speed genetic analysis equipment.

* Idle Free Systems raised $1.3 million from undisclosed investors.
* Lake Resources-Iron Clads, an outdoor product manufacturing company that produces soft-bait fishing lures, announced it has raised $100,000 from private equity investors. The company had previously raised $375,000.
* Michelle’s Miracle raised $750,000 from Phenomenelle Angels Fund, Fisher Properties and Cherry Growers Inc.
* Mithridion Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing drugs for serious Central Nervous System disorders, announced progress in its development of oral drugs for Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia.
* NanoMedex Pharmaceuticals has received a $2.23 million Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Institutes of Health to complete clinical development of its first drug, Microfol.
* Prodesse Inc., a Waukesha biotech firm, was sold to Gen-Probe Inc. in San Diego for $60 million.
* RedPrairie filed for an Initial Public Offering.
* Soft Switching Technologies raised $2.5 million from undisclosed investors.
* Stemina Biomarkers raised a $1 million round from DaneVest Fund, Wisconsin Investment Partners and Phenomenelle Angels Fund.
* Tesla Laboratories Inc. continues work on a $600,000 SBIR grant from the Department of Defense.
