Pete Palmer, director of General Dynamics’ EDGE Innovation Network, will speak Sept. 6 in Madison, Wis., during the sixth annual “Resource Rendezvous.”
The one-day conference is aimed at helping companies learn how to increase their chance of receiving federal grant dollars or research agreements. Produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium and the Wisconsin Technology Council, the event will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW-Madison campus.

Palmer will speak during the conference luncheon. The EDGE Innovation Network is a revolutionary model that allows industry, academia and non-profit groups, along with government entities, to collaborate in an open environment to rapidly deliver new technologies and innovative capabilities to war-fighters and first responders.
Prior to joining General Dynamics C4 Systems, Palmer was a commissioned U.S. Army officer for more than 32 years, retiring in 2009 as a brigadier general. His Army experience included a wide range of infantry assignments. Recent assignments included commanding the Battle Command Training Program at the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. BCTP is a simulation-based virtual training environment. As brigadier general, Palmer served as deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and assessment for operations for the multi-national force in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Infantry Division in Europe and responsible for the division’s logistics operations and its re-stationing from Germany to Fort Riley, Kan.
Other speakers to be announced soon will represent agencies such the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.
The Resource Rendezvous will also feature early stage companies presenting to key people in federal agencies during the Quad Pitch presentations. The deadline to submit an application for the Quad Pitch presentations is Monday, Aug. 20. Additionally, attendees will have opportunities to learn about the research and development interests and related funding opportunities of participating agencies. Contact Jodi Hoeser for information.
Selected presenters will give a four-minute pitch to showcase their research and product development ideas to federal science and technology directors who will attend Resource Rendezvous. Participants will have only four minutes and up to four PowerPoint slides to share information; there will be ample networking time before and after formal presentations.
“Presenters at past Resource Rendezvous events have established enduring connections with federal science and technology directors, and in many cases have won contracts and grants,” said Jack Heinemann, director of the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium.
To apply to present, you must do two things after registering for the conference:
- Submit an executive summary through the Wisconsin Angel Network Special Events Deal Room. Click here for a direct link to the Deal Room. You will create a user profile and submit your executive summary directly to the website. Summary requirements are on the website. All bold fields are required.
- After submitting your executive summary through WAN’s Deal-Flow Pipeline, e-mail Jodi Hoeser at jhoeser@wisconsintechnologycouncil.com and confirm you are applying to present at the Resource Rendezvous and if your submission can be activated, allowing WAN’s investor-members to view your submission.
The Resource Rendezvous will also feature opportunities for researchers, grant writers, business leaders and other professionals to learn about the R&D interests and related funding opportunities of participating agencies.
