February 14, 2013 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

MILWAUKEE – Increased collaboration among Milwaukee-area research institutions and the private sector will be discussed at the Thursday, Feb. 14 WIN-Milwaukee meeting.

The luncheon will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 10499 Innovation Drive, Wauwatosa. Registration and networking begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for students, $25 for WIN members, Governor’s Business Plan Contest participants and Milwaukee County Research Park tenants, $35 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships. Register here: www.wisconsintechnologycouncil.com.

Panelists will include representatives from UWM Research Foundation, the Medical College of Wisconsin and other regional research leaders. Tom Still of the Tech Council will moderate.

At the UW-Milwaukee, rising numbers of invention disclosures, licensing deals, catalyst grants and collaborations with private business leaders such as GE Healthcare, Johnson Controls and Rockwell Automation are redefining the research and development mission of Wisconsin’s second-largest doctoral university.

At the Medical College of Wisconsin, a National Institutes of Health grant in 2010 has positioned the college to better translate research advances into treatment, training and other partnerships. MCW’s collaborators are Marquette University, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, the UW-Milwaukee, the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital and Health System, Froedtert Hospital and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.

“Leveraging the research efforts of Milwaukee academic R&D institutions and its private sector is key to the region’s economic growth,” Still said. “By attending, startups and emerging companies can learn more about how to work with these institutions.”

WIN-Milwaukee meetings are held in cooperation with BizStarts Milwaukee (www.bizstartsmilwaukee.com) and sponsored by the UW-Milwaukee and the UWM Research Foundation. WIN is the membership arm of the Tech Council, the independent, non-profit science and technology adviser to the governor and the Legislature.
