UW-Milwaukee’s Connected Systems Institute topic at Dec. 6 Tech Council event in Wauwatosa

December 6 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

The transition to “Industry 4.0” in manufacturing and related businesses will be discussed by industry and academic experts at the Thursday, Dec. 6 luncheon meeting of the Tech Council Innovation Network in Wauwatosa.

The product of support from industry partners and the university, UW-Milwaukee’s multi-disciplinary Connected Systems Institute will focus on the industrial internet of things. It blends expertise from UW-Milwaukee’s Lubar School of Business, its College of Engineering and Applied Science and its School of Information Studies.

Panelists so far include Dr. Adel Nasiri, associate dean for research and a professor in UW-Milwaukee’s College of Engineering and Applied Science, and David Vasko, director of advanced technology at Rockwell Automation. They will discuss a collaboration that will house state-of-the-art internet of things simulations. Rockwell Automation’s $1.7 million gift to the Connected Systems Institute supports a campaign that has a goal of $200 million, the largest in UW-Milwaukee’s history.

The event will take place at UW-Milwaukee’s Innovation Accelerator, 1225 Discovery Parkway. Registration, networking and hors d’oeuvres start at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for students and returning veterans, $25 for individual members, $35 for non-members and included for Tech Council corporate members. “Industry 4.0 is a vital platform for industry today, which must increase productivity in a climate that includes workforce shortages as well as knowing what technology to adopt,” said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council. “The Connected Systems Institute will help companies facilitate information and automation and data exchanges in manufacturing technologies.”

The meeting is sponsored by UW-Milwaukee, UWM Research Foundation and the Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity.
