WiSys: Finding Funding: Spotlight on the NIH Academic Research Enhancement Award

The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award is to support small scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the National Institutes of Health. The emphasis is on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for undergraduate students and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions. In this session you will learn the ins and outs of applying for this mechanism and best strategies for success.
Gina Jahn is the Research Development Associate for the NW region of Wisconsin including UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, and UW-Superior. Gina’s role at WiSys is to enhance faculty, staff, and student success in obtaining external funding for research and service activities. Gina’s expertise ranges from finding funding opportunities and reviewing proposal elements to facilitating collaborations and providing professional development related to grant seeking. Gina has over 20 years of experience in higher education including 9 years in research administration at Northern Illinois University, and 12 years as a biology and environmental science instructor at Rock Valley College.
