A lineup of speakers and technology scouts will help Wisconsin researchers and companies better understand federal R&D and contract needs during Thursday’s sixth annual “Resource Rendezvous” in Madison.
The conference helps companies learn how to increase their chances of receiving federal grants or research agreements with defense contractors. Produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium and the Wisconsin Technology Council, the event will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW-Madison campus.

- Retired Brig. Gen. Peter Palmer, director of the General Dynamics EDGE Innovation Network, who will speak during the conference luncheon.
- Matt Scholl, deputy chief with the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence within the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
- Jim Grove, who coordinates the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology activities for the six-state region that includes Wisconsin.
- Dr. Gerald Moses, program manager for medical simulation with General Dynamics Information Technology.
- Dr. Kevin Kunkler, who leads efforts involving medical modeling, simulation and training for the U.S. Army’s Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center.
- Retired Lt. Col. Rock Marcone, director of the General Dynamics Land Systems Maneuver Collaboration Center.
Thirteen companies with research and products of potential interest to federal scouts will present Thursday during “Quad Pitch” segment of the conference. They are:
BtR LLC – This Middleton start‐up is commercializing technology to combat corrosion through a colloidal suspension of durable nano‐material for coatings.
C-Motive Technologies Inc. – This Madison company, a finalist in the 2012 Governor’s Business Plan Contest, is commercializing wireless technologies to displace rare earth magnets used in electric motors and generators.
DNASTAR Inc. – This Madison firm develops and sells software for geneticists, molecular biologists and other life scientists to support assembly and analysis of DNA, RNA and protein sequence data.
Ebullient – This Madison company provides solutions for high-value cooling needs for data processing centers and power electronics industries. Their systems will reduce overall system size, weight, energy consumption and cost.
Eso-Technologies Inc. – This Middleton firm is developing a cardiac monitoring system to safely provide clinically vital data to manage patients during heart surgery and critical care settings.
Hop-Skip Networks – This Madison company is developing self-forming and self-healing mesh networks with ultra-low power consumption. Network setup is “plug and play” and reliability is high enough to deploy in applications where safety and security are paramount.
Medical Thermal Dynamics – This Milwaukee firm is developing a safe, reliable and effective portable therapeutic hypothermic product which works in the field for patients suffering catastrophic medical events such as cardiac arrest, heat stroke, or neurologic stroke.
Phoenix Nuclear Labs – This Monona firm has developed a proprietary high flux neutron generator for medical isotope production, radiography, and explosive material detection.
Pilot Training System LLC – This Middleton company, a finalist in the 2012 Governor’s Business Plan Contest, uses a historic weather database to help improve existing flight simulation software.
Progeneric Systems – This Dickeyville startup delivers software tools that make the complex task of parallel programming much easier for mainstream software developers.
Radiant Fabrication Inc. – Formerly known as PolarD, this Fitchburg firm is improving access to 3D printing technology by providing more efficient speed, functionality and software accessibility. The company was a finalist in the 2012 Governor’s Business Plan Contest.
Re – This Madison startup, the winner of the 2012 Schoof’s Prize for Creativity on the UW-Madison campus, has developed a high-performance prosthetic hand for transradial (below elbow) amputees. It can be inexpensively created for use in developing countries.
Swallow Solutions – This Madison company provides solutions for people suffering from swallowing disorders, a condition generally known as dysphagia.
