An initiative to improve the supply of data scientists and to change how businesses make critical market, production and consumer decisions will be discussed at the Thursday, Sept. 27 luncheon meeting of the Tech Council Innovation Network in Wauwatosa.
Three Milwaukee region leaders will talk about the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute. They are: Mark Mone, chancellor of UW-Milwaukee, Mike Lovell, president of Marquette University and senior director of analytics Dave Pahl of Northwestern Mutual.
Northwestern Mutual and its foundation will contribute $12.5 million, and the UW-Milwaukee and Marquette University will each contribute in kind and fundraising of $11.25 million over the next five years. Supported by a total of $35 million, the institute will support endowed professors, data science faculty positions, research projects and expanded student programming beginning this fall.
The event will take place at UW-Milwaukee’s Innovation Accelerator, 1225 Discovery Parkway.
