Ken Hendricks, a roofing company billionaire from Beloit and the winner of the Wisconsin Technology Council’s 2006 “Seize the Day” award for entrepreneurial spirit, died early Friday after a fall while inspecting an addition to his home.

The 66-year-old was checking on construction on the roof over his garage at his home in the town of Rock Thursday night when he fell through, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Department. He suffered massive head injuries, according to his company, ABC Supply Co.

Hendricks was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, the self-described nation’s largest wholesale distributor of roofing. The Beloit-based company does about $3 billion in business a year.

“Ken Hendricks was an inspiration to entrepreneurs and a true friend to the Beloit community and Wisconsin. He will be missed in many ways,” said Tom Still, president of the Tech Council.
