Internet2
is a not-for-profit consortium with 250-plus academic members, including the
UW-Madison, the UW-Milwaukee and Marquette University, as well as industry
members, connector organizations and other partners. It operates the Internet2
Network, which provides a secured, high-end network for academic researchers
and others.

About
93,000 U.S. educational, research, government and other “anchor” institutions,
such as public libraries, museums and health-care organizations connect to
the Internet2 Network.

Lambert’s
accomplishments at Internet2 include leading the development of the world’s first 100 gigabit per second transcontinental
research and education network, which was completed in April 2013. He has held
networking leadership positions at Georgetown University, Cornell University
and Indiana University.

“We’re
looking forward to learning more about challenges and opportunities facing the
nation’s research community – and the Internet itself,” said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council.
