MILWAUKEE – “In(VEST)formation: An update of what’s next in Wisconsin investing” is the theme of an investors-only forum at the 2011 Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference to be held June 7-8, 2011, in Milwaukee.

To register for the conference, to be held at The Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave., go to: http://www.wisconsintechnologycouncil.com/events/ent_conf/

The investors-only forum will take place Tuesday, June 7 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Immediately following the forum will be live presentations by the Top 12 finalists in the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.

The forum will provide an update and open discussion on recent legislative proposals, including: The Wisconsin Jobs Act (SB94/AB129) and the Wisconsin Venture Capital Authority; The Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Initiative and refundable Accelerate Wisconsin (Act 255) Credits; and an expansion of the Qualified New Business Venture-Capital Gains program for Certified Venture Funds.

The forum will also highlight the potential for a Wisconsin Investors’ Summit and provide updates on efforts under way in neighboring states, such as the new Minnesota Angel Network; investor tax credits programs in Minnesota and Illinois; and the latest on the Midwest Co-Investment Network.

The investors-only forum is also designed to give investors a sneak-peek at the future structure and strategic evolution of the Wisconsin Angel Network and review the results of the first Wisconsin investment deal-flow survey.

The forum will be moderated by Zach Brandon, director of the Wisconsin Angel Network.

The Wisconsin Angel Network was launched in January 2005 to fuel the growth of entrepreneurial, early stage financing throughout Wisconsin. WAN accomplishes this mission by providing services and resources to the early stage investing market. WAN connects entrepreneurs to investors and offers tools and education on raising capital.

“Ignition requires both spark and fuel. As evidenced by the amazing ideas highlighted at the conference, Wisconsin has always had plenty of entrepreneurial spark and the right people,” Brandon said. “However, we continue to lack venture capital, the fuel of innovation. This exclusive forum is an important opportunity to bring Wisconsin’s investment community together within the larger context of the Entrepreneurs’ Conference.”

Other highlights of the ninth annual Entrepreneurs’ Conference include:

  • Headline speeches by Tim Kane of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation; Jeff Rusinow, founder of Silicon Pastures; Joe Sweeney, author of “Networking is a Contact Sport;” and Mark Schmitz, principal and creative director of ZEBRADOG;
  • The Top 12: Finalists in the Governor’s Business Plan Contest square off;
  • Ken Hendricks Memorial “Seize the Day” Award
  • Hands-on panel discussions tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs
  • “Start-up Café” offering one-on-one instruction on social media, lean start-up and mobile applications
  • Plenty of chances to network over food and refreshments!

The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference is produced by the Wisconsin Technology Council, the independent, non-profit science and technology advisers to the Governor and the Legislature. It serves as a catalyst for the growth of Wisconsin’s tech-based and entrepreneurial economy.
