Growth and innovation are keys to solving unemployment and keeping the U.S. in the global mix, the top executive of one of the world’s biggest companies told the UW System Board of Regents Friday morning.

“Job creation and competitiveness in the end have to be the answer,” said Jeffrey R. Immelt, chairman and chief executive officer of General Electric Co. “If we accept potential GDP growth in the U.S. to be 2%, this never gets better.
