As Milwaukee’s Global Water Center was preparing for its 2013 opening, one of the center’s biggest boosters pointed to a neighboring former rail yard.

“In five years, you’ll see several water technology companies housed there,” Paul Jones, The Water Council co-chair, told a Journal Sentinel reporter.

Jones, now A.O. Smith Corp.’s retired executive chairman, wasn’t the only person who held great expectations for Reed Street Yards Global Water Technology Park, a business park aimed at water tech firms.

But, five years later, even as the Global Water Center is largely full, Reed Street Yards has failed to launch. Now, its developer and city officials are opening the site for apartments, as well as office buildings that would house nonwater businesses. Read the full story here.
