Dominic Anzalone’s professor told him the idea would never work.

The market was saturated. The business model wouldn’t turn a profit.

Anzalone received a D on his business plan for a website targeting college off-campus housing markets. The class was part of the entrepreneurship program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Anzalone started the company anyway, launching the site in 2013. This fall, Rent College Pads, will grow to operate in 100 student housing markets across the country.

The idea is to help students find housing by featuring near-campus rentals. For students, it’s easier than sorting through a sea of postings on a citywide website like Craigslistor Apartments.com.
