Those three leading states (Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota) in the Kauffman study are not exactly models relevant for Wisconsin’s aspirations. Not only do they have a dearth of venture capital, they also lack growth companies; that is, the statistically strong relationship between start-ups and mid-market companies is consistently negative.
