In her record of decision announced April 15, U.S. Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett officially designated Madison’s Truax Field as one of two sites that will receive the next-generation F-35A aircraft. The jets are set to start arriving here in 2023.

The F-35A basing decision is much-needed positive news for Greater Madison. Time and again we have seen firsthand the tremendous value the 1,200 Airmen of 115th Fighter Wing bring to our community, from their extraordinary work responding to the COVID-19 outbreak to generating $100 million in annual economic impact, with our currently hard-hit restaurant and hospitality industries benefiting the most.

This day is also the culmination of four years of commitment from numerous stakeholders. Many thanks to the Badger Air Community Council and the thousands of Together Truax supporters – including business leaders, community members and elected officials at every level – who backed the 115th throughout this process.

We congratulate the 115th Fighter Wing and look forward to Greater Madison continuing to enjoy the benefits of the base for decades to come.

With high regard,
Zach Brandon
