American Family Ventures, the venture capital arm of Madison-based insurance company American Family Insurance, is building a new fund dedicated to investing in startup tech companies.

The fund, titled AmFam VC Fund III in filings recorded with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, is a new $200 million fund, according to the filing. The company has so far raised $162.5 million of that fund through four investors.

Messages made to the venture fund’s managing director and American Family Insurance communication staff were not immediately returned.

American Family Ventures makes investments in the range of $250,000 to $5 million in startups focused on innovation for the insurance and financial services industry and that develop products and services for data analytics, internet-connected devices and systems, and cybersecurity.
