In true Milwaukee fashion, city and community leaders, led by Mayor Tom Barrett and Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, joined Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez in a beer toast Monday afternoon to celebrate the city’s selection as the host of the 2020 DNC convention. Check out the attached slideshow to see photos from the press conference and celebration event held at Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee.

Barrett, Perez and Barnes were joined by Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee), Gov. Tony Evers and Milwaukee Bucks senior vice president Alex Lasry, one of the leaders of the effort to land the convention, which is expected to have an economic impact on the region of $200 million.

Milwaukee was chosen Monday to host the convention, beating out Miami and Houston, which were the other two finalists for the event.

Barrett, Barnes, Perez and Lasry also signed a contract for the huge event, which is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors to the Milwaukee area. The convention is scheduled for July 13-16, 2020. See the video below for the sights and sounds from the press conference, which drew a large crowd of business and community leaders.
