For Milwaukee’s tech industry, Foxconn Technology Group is the elephant in the room.

The Taiwanese technology company set goals to employ as many as 13,000 people in Wisconsin, and in an industry with leaders who at this time last year identified talent attraction and retention as their biggest issue, that job volume promised to put a strain on the industry. These days, it’s hard to know exactly what Foxconn’s Wisconsin footprint will look like, but the specter of the potential giant still looms large.

“We can debate how effective they are, one way or another,” said Mike Rodgers, vice president of commercial innovation for Advocate Aurora Health in Milwaukee. “But I look it as an opportunity to change the dialogue. Like it or not, it’s changed the dialogue.”
