Milwaukee Business Journal examines Business Plan Contest entries in region

Since 2004, the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest has helped individuals and groups develop 1,500 ideas for high-tech companies and distributed $1 million in cash and prizes.

But the Milwaukee area tends to be underrepresented in the contest, especially when compared with the Madison area, according to an analysis of entries over the last four years. Participation from the Milwaukee area has been inconsistent at best, and at least one local business executive wonders if it stems from a lack of emphasis on innovation in southeastern Wisconsin.
