The chairman of the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia says Milwaukee hosting the 2020 DNC will generate massive economic impact, a jolt for sales tax revenue and positive media coverage about the city’s progress.
“It is a good thing to have a political convention in your city,” former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said during his prepared remarks at a Milwaukee Business Journal DNC event.
Among the biggest beneficiaries of the Philadelphia convention were minority-owned businesses including neighborhood businesses that received 67% of the DNC host committee spending, Rendell said.
Following are Rendell’s responses to select questions from Milwaukee Business Journal editor-in-chief Mark Kass and WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) news anchor and political reporter Charles Benson.
