A $10 million gift from Milwaukee philanthropists John and Linda Mellowes will advance the Medical College of Wisconsin’s efforts to study the potential of the human genome for diagnosing and treating cancer, cardiovascular disease and other diseases and to ultimately introduce medical breakthroughs and new treatments.

The gift, which the Medical College announced internally late Thursday, represents the largest philanthropic investment in the genomic sciences to the Wauwatosa-based private medical school. The college dedicated the Linda T. and John A. Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine in honor of their philanthropy.
