Derrick Johnson, founder and previous director of Dream MKE, recently launched a tech startup that uses voice recognition and artificial intelligence to automate the payment and ordering process at fast food drive throughs.

Encounter AI allows people to order food through a voice recognition system instead of talking to a person via intercom or headset. Hardware installed by Encounter AI then integrates with point of sale systems inside the restaurant. Additionally, if a customer is revisiting a fast food establishment, the customer can use the credit card on file and authorize the payment through the voice system, bypassing having to swipe a credit card or pay in cash at the drive-through window.

Encounter AI is currently testing the technology at fast food service establishments in Milwaukee, Atlanta and Chicago with a projected release of the full product in early 2019, Johnson said. The company is also raising a pre-seed round of funding, though Johnson declined to say how much, as the investment round is ongoing. Read the full story here.
