Encounter AI, a semifinalist in the recent 5 Lakes Pitch competition at Summerfest Tech in Milwaukee, is piloting its artificial intelligence, voice communication-based ordering assistant technology at quick-service restaurants in Milwaukee.

The company — launched last year by Derrick Johnson, founder and previous director of Dream MKE, and Kabah Conda — is piloting its technology, called Mai, with four different quick-service restaurants, or QSR, brands in multiple locations, said Conda, chief operating officer of the company.

The company started the piloting phase in March and is working with a franchisee in Milwaukee, though Conda wouldn’t specify which.

Encounter AI, which is primarily based in Chicago, advanced to the semifinal round of 10 startups for the 5 Lakes Pitch Competition, where roughly 35 companies across the Great Lakes applied for a chance to win non-equity cash prizes and exposure.
