Not many communities ever face the challenge of filling 10,000 jobs when a new employer rolls into town.

Mount Pleasant officials face that daunting task now as Foxconn Technology Group enters the region, and they are seeking advice on how to do it. To find that counsel, Racine County officials flew to Reno, Nev., in December to find out how counterparts are dealing with Tesla Inc.’s Gigafactory facility.

“It was really helpful to us to understand some of the opportunities they faced, some of the challenges they faced, and how they were able to build partnerships with their technical colleges, said Jenny Trick, executive director of the Racine County Economic Development Corp.

Trick, along with a delegation from Gateway Technical College, visited Reno Dec. 22-23. They toured Tesla’s Gigafactory and met with leadership at the area’s main tech school, the Truckee Meadows Community College and Trick’s counterparts at EDAWN, or the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.
