The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Information Studies, or SOIS, is launching a tech lab to support research and innovation in blockchain, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things devices, among other digital technologies.

The Disruptive Technology Lab, which will be available to both onsite and online students, will include a virtual lab and space for students to work on projects, in addition to hosting seminars, workshops, bootcamps and interdisciplinary courses. It will also serve as a supportive tech hub for major companies in Wisconsin, such as Northwestern Mutual, Aurora Health Care and Foxconn Technology Group, along with emerging Milwaukee startups, according to a news release.

“We view these technologies as a continuum, to be studied together rather than in silos,” said Matthew Friedel, a senior lecturer at UW-Milwaukee, who along with associate professor Jacques Du Plessis, co-founded the lab. Read the full story here.
