Imbed Biosciences Inc. announced July 28 that it has been
awarded a $1.5 million competitive Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
Phase II grant from National Institute for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and
Skin Diseases, a division of National Institutes of Health. Imbed is a past
finalist in the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.
The award will support the development of a polymeric nanofilm
dressing containing silver nanoparticles that allows closure of hard-to-heal
wounds without infection or silver toxicity. With its Phase 1 SBIR grant, the
company validated the feasibility of employing this ultra-thin conformal wound
dressing in murine wounds.
Imbed’s team includes co-founder and company president Ankit
Agarwal, a principal investigator and UW-Madison graduate; co-founder Nicholas
Abbott, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at
UW-Madison; co-founder Jonathan McAnulty of the UW-Madison School of Veterinary
Medicine; and co-founder Dr. Michael J. Schurr, a burn and trauma surgeon in
