MADISON – In the wake of President Obama’s March 30 speech on national energy policy, researchers will gather in Madison in April for a one-day event that will highlight progress on “next-generation” biofuels.
The “Biofuels Showcase,” produced by six sponsoring groups, will examine cooperative research opportunities for large and small businesses engaged in developing biofuels.
Produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, Wisconsin Bioenergy Institute, Kansas Bioscience Authority, Kansas Alliance for Bio Refining and Energy, BioForward, and the Wisconsin Technology Council, the event will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, Madison, Wis.
Seventeen speakers from the Wisconsin Bioenergy Institute, Agriculture Research Services, Forest Products Lab, Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, and the Kansas Alliance Bio Energy and Refining will be presenting patented technologies available for licensing.

Researchers, entrepreneurs, business leaders and other professionals who attend will learn how biofuels will meet future needs of major customers. They will also learn about the major research thrust on both the national and regional levels. Obama’s energy plan calls for expanding domestic production of oil and natural gas, matched with aggressive fuel-efficiency standards, plus more rapid deployment of biofuels. Those include renewable gasoline, biodiesel and more.
“This event brings together researchers and industry to network, and learn about technology licensing opportunities to support business growth and job creation in this clean technology,” said Jack Heinemann, director of the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, a non-profit working to help grow Wisconsin jobs.
