Serial entrepreneur Julie Wainwright, whose meteoric business highs and lows have included Reel.com, Pets.com and her current company, The RealReal, will speak at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference, to be held June 5-6 at Milwaukee’s Pfister Hotel.

Wainwright is the former CEO of the now-defunct Pets.com and current CEO of The RealReal, a luxury consignment website. She is the author of “Reboot: My Five Life-Changing Mistakes and How I Have Moved On,” a book chronicling her experiences at Pets.com and SmartNow.com.

She has more than 25 years experience in consumer and Internet marketing with those and other companies such as Clorox, Software Publishing, Berkeley Systems and Reel.com, which sold for more than $100 million following her tenure as president and CEO. She has been an executive-in-residence at HummerWinblad, a noted California venture capital firm. Wainwright will lead off the conference the morning of Tuesday, June 5.

Wainwright will join Bob Dorf, co-author of “The Startup Owners’ Manual” and a serial entrepreneur who has helped define lean startup principles, who will speak the afternoon of June 5 during the 10th annual conference. Other highlights include:

  • Chances to mingle with angel investors from across the Midwest, who will attend a meeting of the Angel Capital Association during the conference;

  • Other nationally known speakers, to be announced soon;
  • The Top 12: Finalists in the Governor’s Business Plan Contest square off;

The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference is produced by the Tech Council, the independent, non-profit science and technology advisers to the governor and the Legislature. It serves as a catalyst for the growth of Wisconsin’s tech-based and entrepreneurial economy.
