MADISON – Three conferences showcasing Wisconsin’s entrepreneurial culture and technology expertise will be held the first week of June, which Gov. Jim Doyle has declared “Entrepreneurs and Research Week” in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference will be held Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, 333 W. Kilbourn. It’s a “how-to” conference focused on giving entrepreneurs the tool they need to start and grow businesses that will fit with Wisconsin’s high-growth, knowledge-based economy. A conference on “Bionanotechnology: Opportunities in the Bionanotech Convergence Zone” will be held Wednesday, June 3, at the UW-Madison College of Engineering on the UW-Madison campus. A featured speaker is Dr. Jeffrey Schloss from the National Institutes of Health, one of the leaders in the national nanotechnology initiative. Nanotechnology is based on the manipulation of individual atoms and molecules to build structures at the “nano” scale, which is about 1/80,000 of the diameter of a human hair. The Great Lakes Biomedical Conference, historically organized by faculty of Marquette University, Medical College of Wisconsin, UW-Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering, has been expanded to include 17 major research institutions from throughout the Midwest. This year’s event will be held Friday, June 4 at the Medical College of Wisconsin, 8701 Watertown Plank Road in Milwaukee, and will feature high-level industry speakers from the fields of biotech, biomedical engineering, devices/imaging and more.
