Madison is building a national reputation as a hub for technological innovation and entrepreneurship. All across the state, entrepreneurs are connecting world-class research, talent and industry to create economic opportunity and solve important challenges. Wisconsin boasts a wide range of resources to support commercialization in both the public and private sector, and new initiatives like the governor’s committee on innovation and entrepreneurship are focused on catalyzing even more activity in this area. Continuing to foster a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wisconsin is the theme of the third lecture in the fall Entrepreneurons series, “Wisconsin as an Innovation Hub.”

UW–Madison alum Aaron Kennedy, founder of Noodles & Co and entrepreneur-in-residence at Titletown Tech, will share lessons learned from his decades of helping leaders and entrepreneurs create a better world. Following the talk, Aaron Olver of University Research Park will moderate a discussion with Kennedy and a panel of local experts including Lisa Johnson (BioForward), Idella Yamben (Center for Technology Commercialization), and Elmer Moore (Scale Up Milwaukee).

The panel will focus on a discussion of the strengths Wisconsin can leverage, and where we need to challenge ourselves to be more competitive. “This is an exciting time to be a part of Wisconsin’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” says event co-organizer Andy Richards, director of UW–Madison’s Discovery to Product. “The more we work to connect the dots between higher education, industry, and government, the better climate we’ll create for entrepreneurial activity in our state.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, November 12 from 4pm to 6pm at the Discovery Building on the UW–Madison campus (330 N. Orchard St.), and is part of UW–Madison’s Startup Wisconsin Week programming lineup. The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) and UW–Madison’s Discovery to Product (D2P) are partnering to co-host four Entrepreneurons lectures this fall. The events are free and open to the community.

Entrepreneurons is a series focused on bringing the fundamentals of getting a new venture started to the UW–Madison community. These short programs bring together thought leaders from across the country and our own backyard to exchange perspectives on core topics ranging from identifying an opportunity to building a startup team to financing and beyond.
