The Madison startup Emonix won the top award at the Madworks accelerator pitch night this week.

The company’s technology, developed by UW-Madison graduate student Neil Klingensmith, looks to reduce salt usage in water softeners, particularly in apartment and commercial buildings. The company, which has 12 customers, won the $5,000 award for having the greatest potential to boost the state’s economy.

WeightUp Solutions won the $2,500 award for the company with the best plans to use the money. The Madison company has developed a system to better track weightlifters’ motions.

And Polco, which helps municipalities with public comments, won the $2,500 award for the best presentation.

The 10-week accelerator is based out of the @1403entrepreneurship building close to the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.
