This ranking is based on state performance on more than 200 measures of care. Wisconsin ranked just above Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Maine.
This comes after last month’s news that the state’s Critical Access Hospitals were recognized as best in the nation by the national Health Resources and Services Administration. CAHs are hospitals with less than 25 beds which provide services in rural areas. There are over 58 in the state.
In the AHRQ rankings, Wisconsin performed best in acute and chronic care, and patient safety.
“We know as we improve quality, we reduce health care costs and patient outcomes are better,” said Eric Borgerding, WHA president and CEO. “That helps ensure that Wisconsin will continue to be known for high-quality, high-value care, which is an economic development asset in every part of the state.”
