The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) applauded State Representatives Scott Krug and Katrina Shankland as well as Senators Tom Tiffany and Janet Bewley for creating the new Wisconsin Paper Caucus.  The Wisconsin Paper Caucus is an informal body made up of Legislators from both houses, a representative from Governor Evers Administration as well as various thought leaders from throughout the state.

The overarching goal of this caucus is to work together in a bipartisan fashion to develop common sense policy solutions which will help sustain and promote the papermaking manufacturing sectors throughout our great state.  WPC began advocating for the creation of such a group last year and is excited to begin working together with individuals from both Legislative houses from both parties on this groundbreaking collaborative endeavor.

The Wisconsin Paper Caucus Mission:

The Wisconsin Paper Caucus will be a bipartisan, informal group open to all Members of the Wisconsin State Legislature.  The Wisconsin Paper Caucus will include a representative recommended by the Governor and various thought leaders recommended by the WPC. Its mission will be to inform and educate policy makers and the public about the importance of papermaking, forestry and printing to our great state.  Additionally, the caucus will work to highlight the history, diversity and positive environmental contributions of these industries.

Each house of the Legislature will have both a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson who will work with their colleagues on both sides of the aisle to fulfill the Wisconsin Paper Caucus mission.

WPC will work with the leadership of the Wisconsin Paper Caucus and its members on various items including hosting educational events throughout the year, formulating state policy measures which will have a positive effect on the papermaking industry, organizing bipartisan regional legislative roundtables and educating the public about the importance of the industry to Wisconsin’s economy.

Wisconsin’s paper industry is diverse and thriving in today’s global market and the WPC is especially proud of the fact that our papermakers have led the nation in paper manufacturing for more than 60 years.

We look forward to working with members of the Wisconsin Paper Caucus on policy solutions important to our industry,” stated WPC President Scott Suder.  “The 31,000 men and women who make up our manufacturing sector are fortunate to have leaders like Representatives Krug and Shankland and Senators Tiffany and Bewley to lead this important bipartisan group.”

WPC advocates for and represents the state’s pulp and papermaking industry. Wisconsin is the #1 papermaking state in the United States and its members provide family supporting jobs for over 31,000 employees throughout Wisconsin. Papermakers are dedicated to providing good family supporting jobs as well as being environmentally responsible community partners.
