As the United States embarks upon what Microsoft leaders describe as its seventh wave of technology and infrastructure expansion, the company has unveiled a five-pronged plan aimed at increasing transparency in local communities where it is building data centers for artificial intelligence, while supporting technological progress.

The five components of Microsoft’s “Building Community-First AI Infrastructure” plan address the most common concerns that arise during data center construction: water usage, electricity costs, job creation, property tax rates, and AI literacy and training.

“(This) wave of technology demands investments in new infrastructure…more powerful chips, bigger buildings, more electricity, new advances in liquid cooling, broadband connectivity…many technologies that come together to build the AI infrastructure that will create the next foundation for American growth and prosperity,” said Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft. “And yet the public, not surprisingly, has questions.”
