Wisconsin ranks among the top locations for female entrepreneurs, according to a recent report by Fit Small Business.

The organization offers research for small business owners. In a report published this month, Fit Small Business said Wisconsin ranks No. 9 as a top location for female entrepreneurs in 2019.

Texas, Ohio and Minnesota took the top three spots on the list.

The organization considered four main criteria to determine how desirable a state’s environment could be for women-owned start-ups:

  • General business climate and opportunity
  • Number of female-owned businesses
  • Economic and financial health
  • Safety and well-being for women

Fit Small Business said Madison and Milwaukee are “great cities with ethnic diversity, a foodie culture, and a number of cultural festivals and events year-round.” The organization also noted the state’s lower cost of living, although it said the corporate tax rate and small high-growth company density offset the measure.

Wisconsin ranked No. 38 in last year’s list. The organization used different methodology to calculate that ranking. Read the full story here.
