Known for its popular Spotted Cow beer sold only in Wisconsin, New Glarus Brewing Co. has grown substantially since its founding in 1993.

As it celebrates 30 years in business, the company is planning multiple expansion projects and preparing a succession plan to ensure that the brewery lives on for decades to come.

New Glarus Brewing president Deb Carey was the first woman to found and operate a brewery in the U.S. She co-founded the company with her husband Dan, New Glarus’s master brewer.

“Dan and I are both 63 and as much as everyone thinks we’re invincible, I will eventually die,” Carey said Thursday at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference in Milwaukee. “We have to have systems in place because my goal at this point is, I want this brewery to be around in 100 years or 300 years.”
